The Big Gulch is This Weekend!
Trails 2000 will host the first annual trail event titled The Big Gulch: A Trails Festival on September 18th at Three Springs. This fundraising celebration will include mountain bike and running races including a Jr DEVO Fun Race for all the kids. Joining with Durango DEVO and Fort Lewis Cycling, the event is a fundraiser for Trails 2000 and its partners.
Horse Gulch and the Telegraph Trail system are the cornerstone of Durango and its outdoor culture. The Big Gulch celebrates protecting, preserving and enjoying our natural surroundings by gathering the Durango community in this inaugural celebration.
The festival kicks off with a 7 mile run and mountain bike races of four distances, to suit riders of all ability levels. All races will begin between 9:00 and 10:15 AM. The flagship mountain bike race, named “The Big Gulch,” has been designed by mountain bike Olympian and 1999 national champion, Travis Brown. Awards and music will follow the races at Carver Brewing Company from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Carver’s will introduce a Big Gulch special event brew during the awards ceremony.
Participants have numerous ways to register: in-person at Mountain Bike Specialists; mail-in registrations by logging on to the Big Gulch web site (www.thebiggulch.org) and downloading the registration form. Late registration begins Friday, September 17th, from 4:00 pm – 7:00 at the Three Springs Information Center and on the day of the event beginning at 7:30 AM.
Trails 2000 is a Durango-based non-profit organization, founded in 1989, that builds and maintains trails, educates trail users and advocates for total connectivity on road, path and trail. Trails 2000 volunteers complete more than 3000 hours of trailwork each season and the town enjoys over 250 miles of trails within 30 minutes of downtown.

Grotts and Pastore Win Coke Triple Crown
1990 World’s 20th Anniversary XC Race Results
Triple Crown Series Overall Points 2010
Thanks to all those who took time to come shred at DMR this summer at the Durango Coca-Cola Triple Crown town race series. We averaged 33 racers for the three events and can only see it growing into the future. DMR is pumped to have us up there and the racers have been pumped on the positive growth with the terrain and the race tracks offered.
In Saturdays final race of the Durango Coca-Cola Triple Crown series, the 20th Anniversary of the 1990 World Championships, DEVO’s Howard Grotts and Director Sarah Tescher raced the new 90 Worlds lap to victory, Howard sealing the deal on the overall points champ and teammate AliciaRose winning the women’s overall. Other winners on the day were Julie Feilen, Devin Feilen, Levi Kurlander and Ed Zink. Zink was the promoter for the 90 Worlds and took the day at DMR to reminisce and race his bike on the rerouted course. He wore a vintage jersey, hat and warm-up flease from the 1990 event and looked super sweet. After the event, he stayed around and fielded questions and dusted off an old program from the race and gifted it to the promoter for the current event, coach Chad. Coach Chad was pumped! All in all, the series was a positive for the Durango community and will be back for 2011. The series profits will be split evenly and donated to Trails 2000, FLC Cycling, the Durango Wheel Club, Bicycle Lemonade, Durango BMX and Durango DEVO.
