Kids at Camp

From one of the Jr DEVO Summer Camp coaches,

“John Rocka fell and knock the wind out of himself at camp today.
After he regained the ability to speak,
he asked me if he still had two lungs?
I looked at him curiously, asked him to raise his right hand,
then looked him in the eyes,
“Yes John Rocka you still have both lungs.””

Durango Coca-Cola Triple Crown Cross Country Race

There is the final Triple Crown Cross Country race this Saturday at DMR. Registration is at 9am and will cost you juniors $5! If you’d like to try another event, Escalante Days in Dolores is on the same day. The Dolores course is pretty flat with tons and tons of corners. If you attend the DMR race, please wear your Devo jerseys with pride as it is our home race, and run by your coaches, parents and teammates.

DEVO Summer Camp at DMR Going Great

Rumor has the DEVO summer camp at Durango mountain resort has been super sweet so far. Last week 15 kids joined coaches Sarah Tescher, Stephan Davoust, Joe Schneider and AliciaRose Pastore for and action packed 8 hour day on the mountain. Riding bikes is the name of the game. You would think the kids would want to ride the slides, play frisbee golf or jump on the huge trampolines, but no its ride, ride, ride!

This week there are 25 kids signed up with coaches Sarah, Jon Bailey, Stephan and Tad Elliott. The kids and coaches grab the bus at Durango’s transit center early every morning and make the trip to the mountain. Once chamoied up, they take part in group rides on the 90 worlds course, do skills clinics on the sweet DMR terrain, watch bike videos after lunch, do trailwork on the Pando Short Track and ride the pump track in search for the perfect line. The camp is for ages 7-13 and is open to all those in search of a great time.

Trailwork will be good on Thursday!

Trailwork Thursday, August 5, 2010:
Location: Skyline Trail
Time: 4:00pm to 7:30pm
Directions: Take Goeglein Gulch road to the Skyridge Neighborhood. Turn left onto Jenkins Ranch Road and drive to the end of the pavement where you’ll see the red Trails 2000 truck parked.
Wear/Bring: Close toed shoes, sunscreen, hat, water
The Skyline trail is that sweet singletrack that leads you from the north end of Jenkins Ranch Rd, in Skyridge, up to the far north end of Raider Ridge. It tops out on the ridge section that is forested, if looking from town. The trail that was used for the Singlespeed World Championships, and the unridable walking section half way up has been rerouted and is currently under construction. This is where Trails 2000 will be working their magic in the next months. This will become one of the best, hardest climbs in town, if it is not already!
