After a small scare, from the possibility of canceling yet another sweet MSC event in 2008, the CB crew has decided that the snow is melting fast, and clearing will occur for the June 20-22 weekend. Phew.

Velo Swap Was Great Success
Thank you to Iron Horse Bicycle Classic, Mountain Bike Specialists and all the wonderful VOLUNTEERS who helped and supported the DEVO team this past weekend at the Velo Swap, downtown concert, and kid’s race. There was action everywhere and all hands on deck were needed in order to pull it off. It could not have been done without you! Thank you to you awesome local pros for digging out your sweet stash and sharing it with us. You not only added a lot to our inventory, you added an element of coolness to the gear! There were tons of smiles, “sweet scores”, and, of coarse, cookies donated from Bread. It couldn’t have been better.
Almost everything sold at the swap and what was left over was donated. Those items will be distributed into the loving and eager hands of a DEVO rider. I heard the concert downtown was a little chilly but the kids did their best pushing water donated from Coca Cola. The kid’s race Sunday morning left me feeling like the most proud Jr. DEVO coach ever! It was incredible watching those kids rally around the block as fast as they possibly could.
Word on the street it was an almost perfect weekend. Only sorry the race to Silverton on Saturday had to be canceled due to weather. But the Ironhorse organizers held tight, kept smiling and the events that followed Saturday night, Sunday and Monday were enjoyed to the fullest.
Thanks again everybody!

What is Durango DEVO/ Mission Statement
Taylor Borucki 3rd in Angel Fire
Check him out, DEVO’s U-19 downhiller Taylor Borucki placed 3rd in the Chili Challenge Downhill, in Angel Fire, New Mexico. Taylor needed to win to automatically qualify for the US World Championship team. He is currently waiting to hear back from Mark Gullickson, head coach of development for USA Cycling, on his petition to make one of five remaining spots on the junior dh squad. Good luck man!
IHBC Criterium Was Wonderful
Sundays criterium took riders through the downtown streets of Durango and into the record books. Well not really. But the jr DEVO’s in attendance at the kids races in the AM just might have set some records. Director Annie Cheeney who course marshaled for the events said, “they had to split the field and run two heats……the Jr DEVO yellow jerseys were everywhere.” That says good things about the future of cycling in Durango. DEVO’s U-14 racers rode strong in the more competitive junior races with Alicia Rose Pastore dropping her female competitors and catching and dropping the boys field. Dang. The cruiser crit was also filled with DEVO, this race had them looking as goofy as ever. The three unicycling, banjo playing goofball kids ended up taking the trophy for Radness. More results later.
Iron Horse Road Race and Tour Cancelled, Bummer
The Iron Horse road race and tour have been canceled due to snowy passes. This call has pierced the ears of thousands on this early saturday morning. Mother Nature is a crazy beast here in this high desert, southwestern town, there is no one to blame but her. The crit and tt are still on the way, so take a deep breath and accept it. Bummer!

Its true, from 3-8pm, you and your friends can bring all of your idle cycling things down to the La Plata County Fairgrounds at 25th and main. We will see you and your sweet sweet stuff there.
Desert Sun Coffee DEVO Roost at Velo Swap
DEVO Roost Blend coffee will be available for sale during the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic Velo Swap. Local brew-masters, Desert Sun Coffee have dialed in a sweet blend for us to sell to the masses. At 13 bones a bag, it isn’t cheep, but heck, the kids are worth it. Only 50 bags were packaged, so get there early!
Iron Horse Road Race Could be Epic
Hello 2008 Participants, We wanted to make you aware of weather forecast for our area this weekend. There is a low pressure system arriving tomorrow which will lower temperatures and increase likelihood of precipitation. The forecast for Saturday’s ride to Silverton is 30-50% chance of rain/snow mix on Molas and Coal Bank passes with high temperature of 45 degrees F. Riders should plan clothing appropriate for those conditions. Rain coat, helmet cover, long fingered gloves and leg coverings are highly recommended. Keep in mind wind chill on descents, especially if it is wet. Please plan accordingly, as should any family or friends who are waiting for you in Silverton. We have plans in place to have emergency buses available in the high country, along with trucks to transport bikes. Riders who are dressed for poor conditions will be much better off if we have to evacuate riders from passes. This process is efficient, but still takes time. Course Marshalls will be available on road to direct riders to pickup locations. Based on severity of weather, the event may be shortened, or cancelled altogether. Colorado State Patrol has authority over that decision, keep in mind it is for the sake of safety of all participants and support crews on the passes. We would alert the local media, and Silverton to let all family and friends waiting know status. On Saturday morning, 7am at both start locations (RR/Tour) we will have information posted if ride has been cancelled or altered. Please check in before you depart, and alert family/friends if needed. The remainder of weekend appears to improve, but will still have a threat of moisture. Please plan accordingly. Thank you for coming, we look forward to a great event. IHBC
DEVO Friend Cale Redpath Takes Front Range 50 Title
Durango’s Cale Redpath of the Directory Plus squad, took an impressive win this past weekend at the Front Range 50, finishing in 3hrs 9min. Of the 160 starters, Cale was one of 16 singlespeeders. He did not only win his singlepeed category, he won the whole darn thing. 50 miles, 1 gear, priceless.

Bike polo is gaining momentum all across this sweet land. It has appeared recently in car adds in People and Newsweek magazines, a sports brief in the latest Outside magazine and in the movie theatres in the new flick, What Happens in Vegas. Dang.
Bike polo has been taking place in Durango regularly since 1999 and has no signs of slowing down. Rumor has the local team looking at getting new matching socks. Dang.
